Why Choose a Monastic Life Experience and Book Your Stay at Monastery of the Risen Christ?

Since the founding of the Monastery in 1992, we have offered hospitality to those who wish to experience monastic life here. Hospitality is one of the hallmarks of our Monastic way of life, and an essential practice reflecting the ancient monastic tradition of welcoming guests, and especially from the point of view of our founder Saint Benedict, to welcome them as Christ.

At the Monastery, most of our Monastic Life Experience accommodations are typically for one person, meals are taken privately and an atmosphere of gentle but profound silence pervades the Monastery grounds.

A key element of any Monastic Life Experience is spaciousness. We provide private suites for solitary prayer, reading and meditation.

Additionally, the welcoming space of the chapel, which is open 12 hours a day for communal and individual prayer and meditation, affords a spectacular vista of the Coastal Hills, and surrounding nature, all conducive to contemplation.

We offer people of all faiths the experience of engaging in something larger than oneself and resting in the One who loves each of us infinitely.

In the interest of maintaining a silent and contemplative atmosphere, retreatants are asked to refrain from using radios, typewriters, or musical instruments. Pets are not permitted.

A Retreat

A retreat is a time set aside for meditation and prayer within which by faith, God has inspired a person to give undivided attention to God in a setting of our monastic community’ retreat facility here at Monastery of the Risen Christ. Daily community prayer of the monks is open to all to participate, if they choose. We provide spiritual accompaniment upon the request of the retreat guest. For our Catholic patrons the sacraments of reconciliation and anointing of the sick are available with our priests. We also offer hospitality to other faith traditions for the purposes of retreat as a special spiritual practice , which we honor and pray for as monks. Spiritual accompaniment is also available upon request with the guestmaster.
