We encourage patrons to donate to our monastery's Endowment Fund. This fund will insure our future presence here in San Luis Obispo. The Endowment fund, we hope, will generate enough interest from the principle for future capital outlays, and other needs that arise for the future monastic community's development beyond ordinary income expenses. The fund is set up for the purpose of long range capital outlays to sustain the monastery and developments for student monks by drawing upon the interest accumulated by the fund's principle.

The Monastery is located in the Central Coast of California, near San Luis Obispo. The natural beauty and tranquility of our unique location is cherished by the monks and by our many retreat guests and day visitors from all over the world.

Our isolation and wild beauty, however, come at a cost.

We are solely responsible for the funds necessary to maintain our roads, water supply, buildings and infrastructure and our connection to the outside world.

While most of our maintenance work is done by our own monks, staff and volunteers, which serves to keep our overhead costs as low as possible, we still face significant, non-negotiable costs for maintenance and repairs, food, utilities and numerous other recurring costs necessary for the daily operations of the Monastery.

We support ourselves entirely. Our income is derived solely through hospitality, sales in our book and gift shop, donations from teaching, conferences and spiritual direction appointments and, most importantly, through the generous donations of our visitors, guests, sustaining supporters and friends.
